Terminal velocity of airsoft, paintball and steel BB's
I ve just found interesting chart for pellets maximum free-fall velocity:
http://mackila.com/airsoft/atp/01-a-01.htm
From chart we can see 0.12g 6mm has energy 0.02J , 0.25g 6mm has 0.1J, and steel 4.5mm 0.35g has 0.32J energy.
So it looks like 6mm 0.12g is the best option for RC planes from safety reasons.

Yes, I know this interesting site, but from my own experience I preffer heavyer BBs because they keep some energy longer.cugi a écrit:

Safety or not? When you fly your plane, it rarely flyes below 30 or 40m, and you can add horizontal distance. At least 50 or 60m from plane to ground following gun axis, I guess. Far enought for the BBs loosing their energy.
the biggest risk is probably during handling on the ground. Here there are only two solutions:
-Limit power, but then it risks becoming insufficient in combat.
-use a secure procedure.
But this activity is in any way illegal , everyone should know what risk they accept

In fact I was wondering if there is possibility to hurt someone from BBs free falling from high altitude. In fact normal bullet 9mm parabellum or 7,62mm Ak-47 has high terminal velocity and energy enough to kill human if hit in head at some angles. People are not aware of this when shoot from rifles up into the sky at military parades. But in our case small light BB's plastic or steel can not kill s human, gut may hit eyes
I thing this gunnery sports require eye protection glasses or cover on head. Power should be set to safe level , snd set som safety rules,

You are right, but nobody plays that game but me. So, no need of rules. I convice I'm getting demotivated

Yesterday I drilled 0.25g 6mm ASG plastic BB, and I found they are very fragile. I doubt if plastic BB can fracture bone or hurt seriously anybody (except eyes).
Stell BB are much more problematic. Thay are not fragile, can fracture bone at high energy, and they bounce, so there is ricochet danger. Higher terminal valocity and so on.. headache.
Don't be demotivated : ) FPV hobby is now exploding rapidly. More and more people are involved every day.
This is not a big deal to wear safety glasses just like ASG players or paintball players do
The more people will be involved the more important would be safety rules.
I'm buliding my own guns and RC models and I hope we will meet next year : )

I quite agree , metal balls are dangerous. I always thought that those in plastic are sufficient to deep marks in the foam or balsa.
It'd be nice to meet and fight against each other may be, one day...
