Making my X8 SkyWalker Flying wing Stronger "Repair after a minor crash!
Today I was parting the mold that I make out of the nose of the brand new X8 before I start to modify it, so I can use it to make replacement noses for my old and still working X8 that have the landing gear.
Pictures of the mold here http://www.use.com/editset.pl?set=4e57566bb7c063096dc8
"I have a Minor accident after landing about two weeks ago, "The plane did land nicely, But a gush of wind lifted it up and pound the nose against the ground braking the entire cockpit Canopy area! I have to literally re-do the camera gimbal,
http://www.use.com/supersize.pl?set=412c6abcc629a41553c6&p=1
but this time the nose will be much stronger"
I have a few photographs! but I haven't start to uploaded them yet to my compute! plus I have to be honest I have to take more photographs!
I have to be honest, I'm kind of sad that you no longer have yours! I don't know, Perhaps for some stupid reason I was hoping that we can keep exchanging videos of us flying! Never the less I'm very grateful to have your advice and support on my project! I just hope I could find a few piggies "Pigeons "" to sell the X8's that I have and just turn around and make my self a Horten 229! that plane is just exactly what I really need and is something that is way easier to work on! Did I mentioned that I was comparing the profile of the wing on this to planes and the one that was designed for the HO 229, is way different, I believe that that plane wouldn't have no problems braking easily the 150 Mph! with no problems of any kind and more important is the fact that it would cost me way less in power plants and all those other things!
Well I hope to hear soon from you.
Marco.

That's a good idea And the nose of a plane is frequently too light.MiguelDeServantes a écrit:Today I was parting the mold that I make out of the nose of the brand new X8 before I start to modify it, so I can use it to make replacement noses for my old and still working X8 that have the landing gear.
A second X8, you do love this wing, don't you?
Don't be sad, I didn't really love that plane. And I already know that I'll make a new wing, with similar dimensions but with my own design. We'll see If I'll make a good plane. But before that I have several other projects.MiguelDeServantes a écrit:... I'm kind of sad that you no longer have yours! If I can help, it will be with pleasure.MiguelDeServantes a écrit:

The Horten IX ( also called Horten 229 and Gotha 229) is a magnificent bird
If I remember well, it has symetrical wing section at the tip of the wings, selfstable at the center. Washout 3° negative.
No vertical fin, the rudder control is obtained with drag rudders. I can found more détails in my books, if you need.

About the info on The HO 229! I'm very grateful, for your offer.
I actually have expend the last 10 years of my life trying to find all about that plane! it was a very fast plane! 600(+) miles per hour on those antique turbine engines that where available at the time.
Hey! Do you think that I'm Inzane?? "LOCO???" I think that fling wings are the most efficient, most beautiful, and exiting aircraft ever made?? Do you think that I need a psychiatric evaluation!??? or can it be something closer to a fetish! Like men that get happy only with the feet of woman??
Hey is just a joke! I just love flying wings since I was a kid that is all! and basically don't care what no one think about them I find them graceful and beautiful at the same time.
Any data that can be useful on the process of assembling this plane will be great! You know I thought that the negative washout of the wing was 8 degrees not 3?? can you check that out for me! Thanks for your message!

Good night

"The H IX wing was designed with 3° geometric and 1,5° aerodynamic twist, to give it the desired bell shaped lift distribution with all controls neutral".

Die geschichte der Horten-Flugzeuge 1933-1960
Von Reimar Horten / Peter F. Selinger

Very interresting book, but the translation in English is a bit shorted
The Horten IIV has 8° twist, as most of the other Horten planes, but not the Horten IX

super interessant, mais comprend pas !
Well here is the update of the work on the X8 Nose Job!
Here you will be able to see all the progress that I made with the "NEW NOSE PLUG" The temptation to don' grind and just leave it like that with out a smooth finish! was very great! But sadly I'm a perfectionist! and in order to be at peace with my self I have to grind and them use some body filler to make it look like if nothing have happen!
NOTE: BE VERY CAREFUL!! CATS ARE IN THE PICTURES! AND THEY ARE PLAYING CUTE!
